Help with some common Issues with Generation 1 and 2 Legacy Lufran and Helios Heaters

Other Issues such as:

  • Helios not heating, but you have no alarm?
  • System Pressure Alarm?
  • Water Leaking from Heater Purge?
  • Water Leaking from Heater Flanges?

Send an email or give a call. In MANY cases, issues can be resolved through a few quick questions and troubleshooting steps. No need for service trips, long lead times or waiting to hear back.

SSR Alarm:

1. Loss of Incoming Facility Supply Phase.

Step A: Locate the three phase safety contactor in the high voltage Power Board section of the Heater. While under power check voltage to ground at the top of the contactor for all three phases.

Step B: If a phase is found to be outside of range, check facility wiring. Check Here for additional assistance.

2. Loss of Incoming Supply Phase after the three phase safety contactor.

Step A: Locate the three phase SSR Package in the high voltage Power Board section of the Heater. While under power check voltage to ground on the input of each SSR for all three phases.
Step B: If a phase is found to be outside of range, a replacement safety contactor may be required. Check Here for additional assistance and for a replacement.

3. Non-Functional SSR or Monitoring Board. (9501)

Step A: Locate the three phase SSR Package in the high voltage Power Board section of the Heater. While under power check voltage to ground on the output of each SSR for all three phases.
Step B: If any are found to be outside of range, a replacement will be required. Check Here for additional assistance or Here for a replacement.

Over-temp Alarm:

1. Open Process Over-temp TC. (TC-DI-KT)

Step A: Locate the TC in the Outlet Manifold of the Heating Column. Disconnect the TC at its 4-pin connector and check the resistance between   pins 1 and 4. Acceptable range is 4-26 Ohms.

Step B: If found to be outside of range, a replacement is required. Check Here for a replacement.

2. Open Element Over-temp TCs.

Step A: Disconnect the TCs at the 4-pin connector located on the top side of the Heating Column and check the resistance between pins 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. Acceptable range is 8-32 Ohms.
Step B: If found to be outside of range, a replacement Heating Column (RHL) may be required. Check Here for additional assistance or Here for a replacement.

3. Non-Functional Over-temp Circuit Board. (OT-2B)

Step A: Locate the OT-2B in the high voltage Power Board section of the Heater.

 - Check across positions 1 and 2 on the board for 12VDC output status while under power. Acceptable range is 11.5 - 14.5 VDC.

 - Check across positions 7 and 8 on the board for alarm relay status. Acceptable range is .1 - 1 Ohm when under power and no alarm signal      is present.
Step B: If any are found to be outside of range, a replacement may required. Check Here for additional assistance or Here for a replacement.
